For the year 2005 reply with:

1. Something new you did: Bought a new car

2. Something you regret: Hmm. Getting rid of the old car? Nothing against the Astra, mind. Just miss the old girl.

3. Something you miss: Miss? Childhood simplicity, and all that went with it.

4. Something important you learned: Authority is to be listened to carefully, and ignorance is to be applied to the resulting knowledge where required to further my greater purpose, with tact and a large amount of underhandedness in tow.

5. Some one you are glad you met: ...nope. Met nobody new this year!

6. Some one you got to know better: Myself, and Jem.

7. Something you are proud of accomplishing: Installing and getting to grips with Linux. Letting go of my hoarded junk. Killing nobody, although that has been hard.

8. Your favourite song/Album: Still AC/DC, all music.

9. Your favourite movie: Wallace and Gromit, curse of the were-rabbit. Or Hitchhikers guide.

10. A new place you went to: Doniford bay, Somerset. Nice.

For the year 2006 reply with:

1. Three things you would like to do for the first time: Stay pleasantly drunk for lonfger than 5 minutes..damned fast metabolism.

2. Two places you would like to go: Iceland, as always. Back to the seaside as well.

3. A movie you're stoked about seeing: Hitchhikers Guide to the galaxy

4. Two relationships you want to improve on: Get to grips with the Astra, and get splodge hand tamed.

5. One thing you can better about yourself: Relax more, Worry less.

Oh dear, the Mavrodaphne wine is getting to me...i'm floating on a cloud. My hands seem far, far away from me...I need to think before I move them to co-ordinate myself. If I stood up, I'd fall over. I'm all warm and fuzzy. I just started laughing at my mother's inability to get off the sofa. Thankyou laptop for giving me something to hide behind.

My typing accuracy is laughable. A night of drunken misbehaviour beckons, I reckon..>:D

More drink required.3/4 a bottle is looking at me. Yum. I don't drink s rule, so when I do, it's uick to do the job. My lptop keybord is dying gin nd I doubt I hve the co-ordintion to fix it. Ah well.

More drink. More grinning. More "to hell with everything I normally think" thoughts..more..more! This is why I don't drink..I don't tend to degrade too well..;)

Happy 2006 everyone...I'm going to stagger to the loo now, and drink more. Have a good one, from both Jem and Myself.

..when you hear "walking in a winter wonderland" in a shop and start laughing, purely because all you can hear is the spoof version in your head as it plays?

I had one of those moments in Boots earlier. On the upside, most if not all the christmas shopping is done. Wrapping to do for me, and I'm still waiting on something - thankyou so very much royal mail.

If you go out in the car to shop-make sure you can grin and say "if I dent it, oh well". The traffic at shopping centres is manic. The phrase "it's a small world, so you need to use your elbows" rings true. Luckily I drive an Automatic, so I can just sit back, relax, and nip into tiny spaces while grinning at the drivers I've just made to wait..followed by occasional horn beeping and finger gestures. Got to love the Astra..still getting 400+ miles to a tank as well.

It's been quite a productive day. Shopping all but completed, guinea pigs bathed, blow-dried and about to have their cage done (currently running riot in the shelter, smelling of jojoba and balsam shampoo..hehe), bless..)..what else to do?

I *could* relocate and sort the wiring to the UPS/Router/ADSL Modem so it can be restarted without needing to come in here..that'd be good..

I also need to find some linux-y people to ask about finding a program to log all the traffic passing through my Linksys BEFW11S4 router..I have one for XP, but now Jem and I are using Ubuntu Linux as well, I'd like one for that.

Apart from the normal Christmas/New year things, All we really need to do is look out for:

  • A wheeltrim, since I only have 3 on my wagon now, sigh.

  • A new dishwasher droid, as the ancient freebie we've had for 7 years or so seems to have finally gone tits-up.

  • Bring on the sales! :D

    EDIT:

My outstanding order arrived. The usual postie signs for my/Jems packages if needs be and puts them in my repair workshop for me. Someone else obviously delivered this, and put it on my toolbox at the back of the double garage, under the jumpleads.

I haven't put the Astra in the garage for 2 days or so...oh well!

    Wayhey!!

Ford vs God

Henry Ford dies and goes to heaven. At the gates, an angel tells Ford "Well, you've been such a good guy and your invention, the assembly line for the automobiles, changed the world. As a reward, you can hang out with anyone you want to in Heaven."

Ford thinks about it and says,"I wanna hang out with God, Himself."
The befeathered fellow at the Gates takes Ford to the Throne Room and introduces him to God. Ford then asks
God, "Hey, aren't you the inventor of Woman?"

God says, "Ah, yes."

"Well," says Ford "You have some major design flaws in your invention:

1. there's too much front end protrusion
2. it chatters at high speeds
3. the rear end wobbles too much, and
4. the intake is placed too close to the exhaust."

"Hmmm..." replies God, "hold on."

God goes to the Celestial Supercomputer, types in a few keystrokes, and waits for the result. The computer prints out a slip of paper and God reads it.

"It may be that my invention is flawed," God replies to Henry Ford, "but according to My Computer, more men are riding my invention than yours."

Bring it on...it's getting colder..:D Watching my cars built in air temperature monitor, I saw 2 degrees C in the garage this morning. Within the first minute of driving, I'd got it down to 0.0 Degrees. Within the first three, it was down to -2 or -2.5.

It was at -1 when I got to work, and at 2.41pm we STILL have white grass here. Pretty!

We've lit the coal fire at home, so for the first time this year we have hot radiators and hot water..:) Yes, you read that right-our electric immersion heater died, and we've had cold water and cold water only for months now. Luckily we have an electric shower.

Oops..I'll finish this later...

We're sat watching CSI: Miami, Jem and I on one sofa, my mother on the other. We're just watching a scene that reveals a cabinet full of sex toys etc, and laughing (as we do), when my mother says to us..well..

"Shall I tell you what I did today?

I did Tim's accounts, until 2 o'clock...naked. Very liberating it was, too..."

The sudden urge to laugh almost made my lungs explode! Jem and I didn't dare look at each other...I had to ask the burning question...."Where, exactly...?"

Luckily the answer was "In the office." Much amusement followed...I HAVE to get her a bumper sticker now..Accountants do it naked.

I suppose it's one way to amuse yourself while you have the house to yourself! I'm glad it was all done by the time we got home though...;)

Ah...random moments of weirdness..yep, thats where I get it from..:)

Three women go down to Mexico one night to celebrate college graduation, get drunk, and wake up in jail, only to find that they are to be executed in the morning though none of them can remember what they did the night before.

The first one, a redhead, is strapped in the electric chair, and is asked if she has any last words. She says, "I just graduated from Brigham Young University, and believe in the almighty power of God to intervene on the behalf of the innocent."

They throw the switch and nothing happens.

They all immediately prostate themselves; beg for her forgiveness, and release her. The second one, a brunette, is strapped in and gives her last words, "I just graduated from the Harvard School of Law and I believe in the power of justice to intervene on behalf of the innocent."

They throw the switch and again, nothing happens. Again, they all immediately prostate themselves, beg for her forgiveness, and release her.

The last one, a blond, is strapped in and says, "Well, I'm from the University of Oklahoma and just graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering, and I'll tell you right now, you ain't gonna electrocute nobody if you don't plug this thing in."

Oh YES...look at this! It's an Ebay link, but anyone that has a car, this might just be for you..;)

Ode to stupidity.

There was a teacher at my place of work,
Whos XP was royally f*cked.
I can't be arsed to spybot the thing,
I'd rather the OS was chucked

"You can't!" the distraught teacher exclaims,
"My life is on my laptop".
"I have to", the annoyed techie explains,
"For it is about to come to a stop."

"Spybot can only repair so much,
and, frankly it's gone way beyond,
If it repairs, then XP won't be good for much
and the machine would be best in the pond."

I've booted the bugger with windows PE
it's running quite nicely on that
but if there's one thing that really, REALLY beats me
it's why most end users are prats.

For if you never bother to backup your work
and your laptop decides to die
at best, you end up looking like a burk
at worst, you're going to cry.

So please, resist the cover CD
and filling your PCs with crap
for as and when you bring them to me
one day, you may find I snap.

To this misguided user, I must now explain
the writing that is now on the wall
her XP install will go down the drain
go forth, and get reinstalled.

I daresay they won't be too happy with this
but thats just really hard luck.
If you own a PC, then don't take the piss
because we really don't give a f*ck.

IT Technician.

I've just signed up for Tiscali 512K Broadband...fingers crossed it all goes through..:) I already have an ADSL modem connected to my Wireless Access point, so as soon as the line is enabled, we should be able to switch over in minutes..:)

It'll make things a bit quicker-splitting a 56K modem 3 ways on a wireless router isn't fast..;)

In other news, ...I don't have much. Still on tenterhooks waiting for the call to babysit (and I mean every time a phone flashes/lights up/beeps at any time day or night, we jump). I'm suspending any investigation and "in depth" familiarisation of my new car until this is over, as I don't want to "need" it, only to realise I've stripped it out while investigating it..:)

We bought a fridge too! It's an all singing, all dancing, web capable....hell no it isn't...sorry, got carried away..;) It's a second user £75 quid Electrolux "Electra". Good manufacturer, so I reckon we're laughing! Somewhere to store our food and water away from the "family" fridge...:D

Jem has now set me up a wordpress blog on our host, like hers.

It's www.sirbendy.jemjabella.co.uk/weblog/

Oh BOLLOCKS. I rebuilt my laptop keyboard last night, as it no longer worked. Now it's fine,but...the bloody \ and / keys are on the wrong way round. Sod. Where's my screwdriver...?

Anyway, yes. I will still use my LJ, but I'll be using this WP one as well...I'll link to it from my site as well.

Ah..what fun. We've just been to view a flat! £400 rent a month, in a nice quiet country area. 2 bedrooms, garden, own driveway parking. Nice size living rooms, small but functional kitchen, bathroom with bath and shower, solid fuel central heating.

On just my wage, we could *just* cover it with £80 a month left over. That's including running the car, with an average of 400 miles a fortnight to work/jems work/home/shopping etc.

When Jem starts work proper (whether or not her current workplace take her on), any money she earns will be a bonus..we should be able to run a small home, a car, and still be able to save money in our own bank accounts each month!

If it all went pear-shaped, we would lose nothing...we have 2 families/homes to fall back on. As an experiment...I could go for this. It'd be a bit different, but...it's as quiet an area as here, more local amenities, more people...and 10 minutes from family if needs be.

I'm going to call the estate agent on Monday....
